PARENT & SPECTATOR CODE OF ETHICS

1. Parents and spectators should know that the SCPRD youth sports programs are designed for the children to learn some basic fundamentals, sportsmanship, teamwork, respect for authority and other intangibles…as well as to have fun!

2. Remember, you are here to support your child. If you wouldn't stand up at your child's spelling bee and yell the same negative remarks at a student attempting to spell a word, then don't do it here in our classroom!

3. Don't let the "Win at all cost" bug bite you. Through sports, children can learn both positive and negative things that can help them. Winning is important. We want to encourage each child to play to win. Even more important is teaching these young players how to act when they win AND when they lose. They should do both gracefully and with class.

4. Children's behavior at youth sporting events often mimics that of the parents and spectators. They fuel off of your behavior. If you act right, they will act right...well, most of the time anyway. Don't do something today that you will regret the next day. Act Right!

5. Although we do not govern morality, we would ask that parents and spectators refrain from using alcohol or drugs prior to any SCPRD activity. We do not allow alcohol or drugs on our property and we don't want your child's safety to be at risk. Also, if you use tobacco products, please use them in designated areas only.

6. Any parent, having the knowledge of their child playing under a false identity or address, will be suspended indefinitely from all SCPRD programs.

7. Parents and spectators should remember that ALL of our coaches are volunteers. It is NOT a requirement for your coach to be extremely knowledgeable in the sport they are coaching. Our efforts will be to recruit adult volunteers who are respected members of the community and who will be a positive role model to your child.

8. Parents and spectators should limit their public comments to those of praise. Cheer for all of the kids! Realize that these are children and they will make mistakes. Your contribution of encouragement may be the only positive comment that child receives all day. Cheer them on!

9. Always respect the officials of the game and the SCPRD staff. No one is intentionally cheating your child! Officials will make bad calls and sometimes more than one in a game. If it won't matter ten years from now, don't make an issue of it today! Thank the people who help to provide you and your child this opportunity.
